LEO BEE`S TSONGA BARS OVER EVERYTHING

Hailing from a small village outside Malamulele in Limpopo, Bongani Mbhiza popularly known as Leo Bee is an Emcee whose passion is to throw bars after bars, BOE! In a quest to find out more about his upcoming album; Barcoded Expression, Shangazine asked Leo for a quick chat!

Q: WHERE DOES YOUR LOVE FOR RAP COME FROM?

A: It all started when I was young, I was always fascinated by a lot of songs especially in terms of how the language is used in the songs. Things such as figure of speech, rhymes, punchlines and poetic flow always caught my attention and when I finally bumped into hip hop I fell in love more. I taught myself how to rap to the beats of well-known rappers such as Ja Rule and 50 Cent and this is how I began my own Tsonga hip hop journey.

Q: WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

A: Life inspires me! The kind of experience I encounter in life be it negative or positive drives my passion because I am able to turn these experiences into my own stories through rap songs.

Q: TELL US ABOUT YOUR TRACK, CATA NA, WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

A: It’s actually a retaliation song with the person I was in a relationship with at the time. When we parted ways it was not really on a good note. Due to my love for music, she told me I’ll get married to my music or anything else that you can think of.

Q: LOOKING AT THE PRODUCTION OF THE EP BARCODED BEGINNINGS, SHOULD WE EXPECT BARCODED EXPRESSION TO SOUND THE SAME?

A: EP Barcoded Beginnings is just an introduction of the full project whereas Barcoded Expression is my own personal story. People should expect bars after bars in each every song and when you’re not into bars, you’ll still find something in my songs.

Q: WHAT`S YOUR ADVICE TO YOUNG PEOPLE WHO WOULD LIKE TO BE IN THE RAP/HIP HOP INDUSTRY?

I don’t think I am at the stage to give advice but all you need to do is be yourself. Hip hop is all about expressing who you are so always push what you believe in and want to achieve. Also find ways to survive as this industry is very competitive. So whatever you push, you need to ensure that it best represents the person that you are.
