What is AfroPunk Festival NYC?
AfroPunk is an annual arts festival that celebrates the cornerstone of AFROPUNK through music and, film, skate and art and will be taking place on 25 to 27 August 2018 in New York City, Brooklyn. AfroPunk Festival which is now in its 13th instalment has made its annual debut at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn, New York City in 2005. It is about celebrating uniqueness and lifestyle and, it is also considered as a culture that allows people to express themselves with no fear of being judged. It also supports artists and recognise their hard work through media platforms.
Just recently, we’ve learnt that our very own Tsonga Princess, Sho Madjozi will perform at the Global Citizen Festival on 2 December 2018. As if that was not good enough for Xitsonga people and the rest of Sho Madjozi’s fans celebrating one of their own sharing the stage with international acts! Madjozi is in the United State of America New York City, Brooklyn for this year’s Afropunk Festival. Some of the well-known international artists headlining the festival include Erykah Badu, Tyler, The Creator, Miguel and Janelle Monae. Other performers include The Internet, Twin Shadow, Ibeyi, H.E.R, Daniel Caesar, Lola wolf, Jaden Smith, Willow Smith, Sho Madjozi, KayTranda, Nakane, PowerJam, Yuna and many more.
